SD Pay App Scam: Rs 1,211 Crore Fraud, Over 6.52 Lakh Investors Affected, 12 Arrested
SD Pay App Scam: Amreli Police in Gujarat have uncovered an alleged investment fraud worth around Rs 1,211 crore linked to a digital wallet application called SD Pay. More than 6.52 lakh people across the country are believed to have been affected. Police have arrested 12 accused in connection with the case. Investigators say the platform allegedly attracted investors by promising 9% monthly cashback through a multi-level marketing (MLM) network.
How the SD Pay App Allegedly Operated
According to the police investigation, SD Pay was presented as a digital wallet application. Users were promised 9% cashback every month on the money deposited in their wallets.
The platform allegedly operated through a 15-level referral network, encouraging existing investors to bring new users into the system.
Initially, investors reportedly received cashback and returns, which increased their confidence in the platform. Police suspect that money collected from new investors was used to pay earlier participants. However, withdrawals were allegedly stopped after a large number of people joined the network.
Over 6.52 Lakh People Invested Through the App
Initially, police estimated the alleged fraud at around Rs 635 crore, with approximately 3.15 lakh affected investors.
However, investigators later accessed important digital data by breaking into the password-protected system allegedly used by the accused. An analysis of the records revealed that more than 6.52 lakh people had invested through the platform, with the suspected fraud amount reaching approximately Rs 1,211 crore.
According to police, the app had been downloaded around 1.5 million times. Investigators have reportedly recorded statements from around 900 people, while more than 800 complaints have been reported.
12 Accused Arrested, SIT Formed
Amreli Police have arrested 12 people in connection with the alleged scam. The arrested individuals include key accused Dhaval Patel and Narendra Solanki.
Police suspect that investors’ money was transferred into bank accounts belonging to shell companies. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the digital evidence, financial transactions, bank accounts and the roles of people associated with the network.
Network Allegedly Spread Across Multiple States
Initially, investigators believed that the SD Pay network was mainly operating in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
However, further investigation revealed possible links to several other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Karnataka. Police are now examining the network’s operations across the country to identify investors, referral members and the movement of funds.
Woman Sold Her Flat to Invest Rs 9.5 Lakh
A case involving a woman teacher from Vadodara has also emerged during the investigation.
According to the details shared in the report, she sold her one-bedroom flat in 2025 and invested the Rs 9.5 lakh proceeds in the SD Pay application.
She initially received returns and referral cashback, which increased her confidence in the platform. She also shared information about her earnings on social media, encouraging people in her network to join.
A total of 31 people, including family members and acquaintances, reportedly invested through her. She also claimed that around 800 people joined the scheme through her referral network.
Wallet Showed Rs 50 Lakh Balance, but Withdrawal Became Impossible
The woman said she initially received up to Rs 25,000 per day through interest and referral cashback.
By the middle of 2026, her digital wallet reportedly showed a balance of Rs 50 lakh. However, after the withdrawal facility stopped working, she was unable to recover her money.
She also told investigators that people associated with the platform had shown her escrow wallet details and documents to build trust. One person had reportedly given her a signed blank cheque as an assurance that her investment could be returned whenever required.
Investors Allegedly Offered Company Shares Instead of Refunds
According to the police investigation, the amount of fresh investment coming into the scheme had started declining by March 2026.
As the number of new investors decreased, it reportedly became difficult to continue paying returns and cashback to existing participants.
Police suspect that the accused then started offering company shares instead of returning investors’ money. Investors were allegedly told that the company was planning to launch an IPO and that its share value could increase after being listed on the stock exchange.
Amreli Police are continuing their investigation into the alleged fraud, examining digital records, financial transactions, bank accounts and the people involved in the network.
