Bitcoin Rises More Than 13%, Pulls Back From Eight-Month High
New Delhi, September 22, 2026: Bitcoin, the world’s largest cryptocurrency, witnessed a sharp rally over the past four days, with its price rising more than 13%. During the US trading session, Bitcoin climbed to around $87,381, marking an approximately eight-month high.
However, the cryptocurrency gave up some of those gains on Tuesday during Asian trading hours, falling to around $85,500.
Despite the pullback, Bitcoin remained nearly $10,000 above last week’s low. The recent recovery also came amid a broader improvement in risk assets, including global equity markets.
Why Is Bitcoin Rising?
Several factors have supported the recent Bitcoin price rally. Strong inflows into US spot Bitcoin ETFs toward the end of the week helped improve investor sentiment toward the cryptocurrency.
Another factor was renewed Bitcoin buying by Strategy Inc., one of the largest corporate holders of Bitcoin. The company resumed purchases after a gap of around three weeks.
The options market also showed bullish positioning, with call contracts significantly outnumbering put contracts. Calls generally give investors the right to buy an asset at a predetermined price, while puts provide the right to sell.
Bitcoin Rally Gets Support From Short Liquidations
A large wave of short-position liquidations also helped accelerate the Bitcoin rally.
Over the previous 24 hours, total liquidations across digital assets exceeded $1 billion, with around $840 million linked to short positions.
When short positions are liquidated during a price rise, forced buying can add further upward pressure to the market, potentially accelerating an existing rally.
Bitcoin Still Below Major 2026 Highs
Despite the recent gains, Bitcoin remains below its 2026 January high of more than $97,000.
The cryptocurrency is also trading well below its reported October record level of around $126,000. Therefore, while Bitcoin has recovered significantly from its recent low, it has not yet returned to its previous major highs.
Key Challenges for Bitcoin
The latest Bitcoin rally is taking place against a backdrop of several macroeconomic challenges. Crude oil is trading around $100 per barrel, while US Treasury yields remain elevated.
At the same time, AI stocks and AI-related investments are competing with cryptocurrencies for investors’ speculative capital. This could influence the flow of money into higher-risk assets such as Bitcoin.
