प्रस्तावित 50 प्रतिशत शुल्क कनाडा से अमेरिका आने वाले करीब 20.2 अरब डॉलर के सामान पर लागू होना था।
इससे कई महत्वपूर्ण उत्पाद प्रभावित हो सकते थे, जिनमें:

Keystone XL Pipeline कनाडा के Alberta से अमेरिका के Nebraska तक कच्चा तेल पहुंचाने वाली प्रस्तावित पाइपलाइन परियोजना है। इसकी क्षमता करीब 8.30 लाख बैरल कच्चा तेल प्रतिदिन पहुंचाने की थी।
इस परियोजना को वर्ष 2008 में प्रस्तावित किया गया था, लेकिन पर्यावरणीय चिंताओं और राजनीतिक विरोध के कारण इसमें कई बार देरी हुई।
पूर्व अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति जो बाइडेन ने 2021 में पाइपलाइन के अमेरिकी हिस्से के लिए जारी एक महत्वपूर्ण परमिट को रद्द कर दिया था। इसके बाद परियोजना प्रभावी रूप से बंद हो गई थी।

US President Donald Trump has paused the planned 50 percent tariffs on certain Canadian imports after Washington and Ottawa reached a last-minute agreement. Trump Links Deal to Keystone XL Pipeline
Trump also appeared to connect the latest breakthrough with his efforts to revive the controversial Keystone XL Pipeline project.
The proposed pipeline was designed to transport around 830,000 barrels of crude oil per day from Alberta in Canada to Nebraska in the United States.
The Keystone XL Pipeline has faced political opposition, environmental concerns and repeated delays since it was first proposed in 2008.
Former US President Joe Biden revoked a key permit for the US section of the project in 2021, effectively bringing the project to an end.
Temporary Relief for Canadian Exporters
The decision to suspend the tariffs until August 22 gives Canadian exporters a temporary reprieve and provides both governments with additional time to finalize their agreement.
